For religious reasons(not mine, her parents) the girls can only wear dresses or skirts below the knees. The dresses out there for young girls are not long enough and to revealing on top. This dress has great coverage and she's able to wear a bra without it showing. She can wear it with a nice sweater or comfortably without one. Great summer dress. I may even consider getting one for myself. February 26, 2016

Rated 3 out of 5�by Dapple mine doesn't match picture I just received this back-ordered dress and was sorry to find that it wasn't the same print layout as in the catalog/website. I am a pear with wide hips and thought this dress might work for me because it was whiter on top with a large black band at the lower hip level. The black band on the dress I received, however, starts right below the waist and the band at hip level is whitish. There are also more contrasting bands on the skirt (eight instead of six), giving the dress a less elegant, more peasant-y look. I don't know if the pattern lay out was changed or if it just varies from dress to dress. A couple other disappointments: (1) the "white" is actually a very pale grey, so the dress is more muted than what I had pictured from the catalog and (2) I found the smocked top a little scratchy on my skin (although I'm hyper-sensitive to fabrics and this may not be a problem for most people). The dress appears well-made and I'm sorry that I'll be sending it back. June 9, 2015

BEST ANSWER: Relaxed. The gathering begins just below the bodice. Love the dress. It's like the "broomstick" dresses from years ago.

It is relaxed. I have 40" hips and got the Small and there was plenty of room. The gathers start right at the waist.

It is relaxed through the hips. The gathering for the top is at the waist and covers the whole bodice.
