The scoop neckline is not too low and the midi length makes it appropriate for evening wear. I purchased this dress to wear for a wedding, but I was extremely disappointed by the color. It is definitely NOT a claret or burgundy color as described, or even how it appears in the photograph. One reviewer referred to the color as persimmon. That comes close, but I find it more of a fiery orange/red color. This is not a flattering color for me and not at all what I wanted, so I returned it for a basic black because I liked the style and comfort of the dress so much. The 'velvet' material is of a medium thickness and just right for fall or winter. However, I will have to continue my search for a dress to wear at a wedding. April 2, 2016

Rated 2 out of 5�by hawk20 Dress has strange smell The dress has a very strong, toxic odor. I washed it, and the odor has not dissipated at all. Don't know if it is the dye or the fabric, but it is very strong and unpleasant. Also, as another reviewer noted, the color is not the muted one shown in the photo. It is a bright red with a lot of orange, I would call it persimmon. Disappointed that the dress smells so strong. At least I was able to get it discounted. January 15, 2016

Very basic in design, very simple, but can be dressed up very easily in a lot of different ways. Sadly, it does NOT have pockets (why do dress designers forget that women carry keys and lipsticks and cellphones!?) If you're walking the red carpet in Hollywood, this is not the dress for you, but if you need a basic dress for parties, etc., this would be a good choice, especially if you choose black, as I did. Also, the sleeves were a good 3" too long (I'm 5'4", with arms of normal length). Unfortunately, even apart from that, it wasn't flattering to me at all, though it was, as other reviewers have stated, easy to put on and take off. On me, it was a shimmery black sack. So I'm sending it back, chafing under this company's unusually high charge for return shipping. January 10, 2016

Rated 5 out of 5�by Gloria409 Winter Dress to Celebrate This shimmery red velvet dress is exactly perfect for winter celebrations. It slips right over your head with enough stretch to feel totally comfortable. The neck is flattering, wide enough for a necklace to show but with coverage to feel modest. The weight of the velvet is perfect for a nice drape of the fabric and the soft gathers at the high waist conceal a lot, believe me. I like the color because I think it brightens me up. I'm sure black would be very practical for every occasion but I wanted something more eye-catching. This is perfect. I wore the dress for Christmas and loved it. I'll wear it as a chaperone at the High School Winter Cotillion and it will be perfect for that too. I might wear it to a New Year's Eve party or out to a play. It is going many places with me because it makes me feel pretty! December 28, 2015

BEST ANSWER: Absolutely no, the dress is beautiful, lays very nice, and when I wore it to church I received lots of complements about how dressy it was. I also bought this dress in black, I love it. Cathy Krebs

The dress was lightweight, too clingy, and saggy. I didn't wear it long enough to have a problem with static cling. It fit like a saggy sack, so I returned it.
